Aptoide for iOS Fully Launches in the EU
Android users have long had the luxury of choosing from multiple app stores to download their favorite apps. While the Google Play Store remains the go-to option for most users, alternative app stores like Aptoide have garnered a loyal following. With the EU’s Digital Markets Act pushing Apple to allow alternative app stores on iOS, Aptoide seized the opportunity by launching a dedicated game store in beta. Now, Aptoide for iOS is fully launching in the EU, bringing along a unique feature that sets it apart from official app stores.
In June 2024, Aptoide made its debut on iOS for EU users in a limited beta phase. At the time, the service had a waitlist of 20,000 eager users, with plans to gradually onboard 500 to 1,000 users per day. Fast forward to today, Aptoide is now open to all iOS users in the EU without any waitlist, offering them an alternative source to download games outside of the Apple App Store.
What makes this launch even more exciting is the introduction of the App Versions feature from Aptoide’s Android store to its iOS counterpart. While Android users have long enjoyed the ability to install older versions of apps and games, this feature is a rarity in the iOS ecosystem. The App Versions feature allows users to revert to a previous version of a game if a new update proves to be problematic, giving users more control over their app experience.
Both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store lack an app versioning feature for end users, limiting them to the latest updates pushed by developers. While this approach works in most cases, the ability to access older releases can be a game-changer when dealing with buggy updates. By considering the implementation of an app versioning feature, both Google and Apple could enhance the user experience and empower users to make informed choices.
However, it’s worth noting that some developers may push back against the distribution of older app releases. Despite potential challenges, the introduction of the App Versions feature on Aptoide for iOS marks a significant step towards giving users more control over their app experience.
