Balatro and Abiotic Factor sold 3m copies in H1

Strong Performance Amidst Challenges

In a remarkable display of resilience, indie titles Balatro and Abiotic Factor have collectively sold three million copies in the first half of 2025. This impressive achievement was reported by TruFin, the parent company of the publisher PlayStack, which emphasized that such performance underscores the firm’s adeptness at managing and nurturing the lifecycle of its successful projects.

For the six-month period concluding on June 30th, PlayStack recorded a revenue of £30.7 million (.4 million), marking a significant 52 percent increase compared to the previous year. TruFin attributes this growth not only to the robust performance of its back catalogue but also to the launch of a new title during this timeframe.

Furthermore, the company highlighted that its return on investment for console projects stands at an impressive “well above” 500 percent, although this figure adjusts to 300 percent when Balatro is excluded from the calculations. Looking ahead, PlayStack has an ambitious lineup, with 12 titles scheduled for release in the coming months and plans to invest over £10 million (.5 million) by year-end.

TruFin CEO James van den Bergh conveyed a strong message to investors in the latest report, stating, “At its core, PlayStack is a games origination engine, with the ability to deliver exceptional risk-adjusted returns.” He further acknowledged the pivotal role of the team at PlayStack, noting their outstanding performance in a challenging gaming landscape. “When a company shines in a difficult environment, there should be great confidence in what it could achieve when the wind is behind it,” he added, reflecting optimism for the future.
