Fragmented Downloads: A Game-Changer
In a move that promises to enhance user experience, EA has confirmed that Battlefield 6 will feature fragmented downloads. This innovative approach allows players to download only the components they wish to install, rather than committing to the entire game at once—a welcome relief for those grappling with limited storage space.
According to a representative from EA speaking to PC Gamer, the base installation size of Battlefield 6 is set at 55 GB, encompassing the core game elements. Players will have the option to add the campaign and multiplayer modes, which will increase the total install size to approximately 80 GB. This dual-installation size was previously noted on the game’s Steam page, prompting PC Gamer to seek clarification from EA.
The EA representative confirmed, “Yes, you will be able to pick and choose which components of the game you install. There will be a shared base package, and then you can separately choose to install the main components.” This flexibility mirrors the functionality seen in the modern Call of Duty launcher, where players can select specific game modes like Warzone or the latest mainline releases without the burden of unnecessary downloads.
Optimized Performance and Unique Features
In addition to its flexible download options, Battlefield 6 is set to leverage DirectX 12 shaders, enhancing its graphical fidelity. The game will also introduce a unique “cosmetic stream” feature, which pre-loads all cosmetic items in advance. This means that when players encounter a skin, it will already be available in their storage, eliminating the need for real-time streaming and freeing up processing power. As a result, players can expect improved frame rates, with reports suggesting performance numbers exceeding 300 FPS.
