Come September, you won’t need a single Total War: Warhammer game to play its colossal, trilogy-spanning Immortal Empires campaign

Expansion Unveils a Wealth of Content

Yesterday marked a significant milestone for fans of the Total War: Warhammer series, as the full details of the upcoming Lords of the End Times expansion were unveiled. This expansion promises a treasure trove of new content, featuring iconic characters such as Nagash and his formidable undead legions, a richly developed Boris Todbringer alongside the realm of Middenland, and the grotesque Glottkin with their putrid hordes. Additionally, players will encounter the cunning Grey Seer Thanquol, accompanied by his monstrous rat-ogre, Boneripper.

One of the most exciting announcements was the revelation that upon the launch of Lords of the End Times on September 24, players will no longer need to own any previous Total War: Warhammer titles to access the expansive Immortal Empires campaign. This campaign has been widely regarded as the pinnacle of the series, offering a vast and immersive experience.

The official DLC summary highlights the impressive scale of the Immortal Empires content, which includes:

  • 14 distinct factions
  • 24 legendary lords
  • Numerous Free-LC lords and heroes introduced over the years
  • Entire free factions like Bretonnia, featuring multiple playable characters

In a notable twist, players can purchase Total War: Warhammer 3 for just during the 10th anniversary sale. However, with the impending changes in September, it may prove more advantageous to invest in the new lords—Nagash, Thanquol, Todbringer, or the Glottkin—at the same price point. While the Realms of Chaos campaign may not be essential, the Immortal Empires campaign will offer a rich experience, complete with its expansive map and one of the new DLC lords.

This shift also applies to Total War: Warhammer 1 and 2. Although the Great Vortex campaign from the second game is enjoyable, its entire map is integrated into Immortal Empires. Many dedicated players, myself included, have invested countless hours across all installments of this series. Yet, with the existence of Immortal Empires, revisiting individual games seems less appealing.

With the reworked endgame and a plethora of new content, the release of Lords of the End Times presents an ideal opportunity for newcomers to dive into the Total War: Warhammer universe. For those who have been contemplating this journey, now is the perfect moment to take the plunge.
