Lead character designer Jon Weisnewski has shared an intriguing glimpse into the development journey of Concord, a hero shooter that has been in the works for approximately eight years. Weisnewski, who has been part of the project for nearly five years, expressed his excitement upon the game’s launch by stating, “Today Firewalk Studios launched Concord. We don’t get a lot of launch days in our careers, so today is special for a ton of reasons. Oblige me some good vibes today.”
Gameplay Insights and Community Reception
Having spent seven hours in the closed beta, players have emerged with a mix of enthusiasm and caution. One gamer noted, “Concord’s guns feel tremendous across the board (especially Lennox’s revolvers). Every hero I’ve played has a fun hook I don’t instantly recognize from other games.” However, despite these positive impressions, there seems to be a prevailing skepticism among the PC gaming community. Many prospective players appear indifferent to Sony’s latest offering, and some have already labeled it a potential failure.
As one player pointed out, “If people latch onto a game because [gamers] all say it’s a huge success, everyone will act and speak of it like it is (despite flaws it may have). Unfortunately, Concord ended up on the opposite end of that, and that’s because of how they marketed the game, in my opinion. The internet has decided this is a bad game and wants it to fail.” This sentiment reflects the fierce competition in the hero shooter genre, where titles like Marvel Rivals have captured the attention of players seeking fresh experiences.
Despite the mixed reception, Concord is set to make its official debut tomorrow, priced at / £35. Early adopters who pre-purchased the game have already had a chance to dive in over the past few days. The game will feature an impressive lineup, including six modes, 12 maps, and 16 characters at launch. Players can look forward to an expanded roster with the commencement of Season 1 in October, followed by additional updates in January and April.
