In a recent update, Deep Field Games has clarified that the much-anticipated Cold Fusion update for Abiotic Factor will coincide with the game’s 1.0 launch. This update introduces the Residence Sector, marking the final chapter of the studio’s homage to the iconic Half-Life series.
Exploring the Residence Sector
The Residence Sector draws significant inspiration from Half-Life’s ‘Office Complex’ chapter, yet it ventures into new territory. Among its intriguing features is a sub-area known as The Praetorium, which presents a haunting archive inhabited by enigmatic “Clericum” figures.
Players can also look forward to a unique opportunity to construct their own bureaucratic environments. Cold Fusion introduces buildable office cubicles, enhanced by atomically precise grid-snapping technology. While this rigid alignment feature is currently exclusive to cubicles, Deep Field has hinted that “maybe other things” could become snappable in future updates.
In a delightful twist, players will have access to the Taco Mine, a taco stall within the Residence Sector. While it may not be an actual mining operation for fossilized Mexican cuisine, the whimsical nature of Abiotic Factor suggests that there may be more to this taco venture than meets the eye.
New Features and Crafting Options
Cold Fusion will also introduce a craftable decontamination unit known as the R.A.I.N. shower, designed to cleanse the blood, grime, and other anomalous substances that players accumulate during their explorations. Additionally, two new storage options will be available: the compact crate, which maximizes loot storage in a smaller footprint, and the void chest, offering access to a pocket dimension for item storage that can be accessed from any location with another void chest.
While a precise release date for Abiotic Factor remains elusive, the team is targeting a summer launch, which is fast approaching. It’s important to note that the 1.0 release is not expected to conclude the journey through the G.A.T.E. research facility, as Deep Field is already teasing a 1.1 update slated for later in 2025.
