Epic signs deal “to make Fortnite and Epic Games Store more accessible on millions of Android devices”

Epic Games Partners with Telefónica to Pre-Install Epic Games Store on Android Devices

Epic Games has recently announced a partnership with European telecommunications company Telefónica to pre-install the Epic Games Store on all new Android devices. This collaboration will allow new Android Telefónica customers in Spain, Spanish-speaking Latam, Germany, and the UK to have immediate access to Epic Games’ suite of games.

This move aims to make popular games like Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe easily downloadable for players. Epic Games stated that this partnership is just the beginning, with plans to expand the alliance over the next year to provide more benefits to mobile players within the Telefónica network.

The strategic alliance between Epic Games and Telefónica is set to create a more competitive ecosystem for Android players, offering them a choice beyond traditional app marketplaces. This initiative comes in the wake of Apple’s decision to remove Fortnite from the App Store in 2020, sparking a legal battle between Epic Games and Apple.

Michael Modon, senior director of growth partnerships at Epic Games, expressed excitement about the collaboration with Telefónica, emphasizing the direct access to the Epic Games Store and upcoming third-party developer games on Android devices. The partnership aims to enhance the gaming experience for players across the Telefónica network.

In addition to this partnership, Epic Games has confirmed its continued support for Fortnite Festival, a Rock Band-style mode developed by Harmonix, ensuring ongoing enjoyment for players in the foreseeable future.
