Developer Innerspace has embarked on an exciting journey with the Early Access launch of its solo co-op secret agent thriller, Spymaster, now available on both Quest and Steam. This strategic move aims to harness community feedback to refine the game ahead of its full release.
Innovative Gameplay Mechanics
Innerspace is well-regarded for its distinctive mechanics and charming aesthetics, as seen in previous titles like A Fisherman’s Tale and Maskmaker. Spymaster continues this tradition, offering a delightful blend of espionage and lightheartedness. During a recent demo at GDC, the game’s engaging nature was evident, even amidst its thrilling narrative.
Players will take on the role of multiple agents navigating parkour-infused missions filled with action and intrigue. A standout feature of Spymaster is the innovative C.A.S.S.E.T.T.E., a wrist-mounted device that empowers players to rewind time, allowing for precise adjustments to agents’ actions in terms of speed, accuracy, and synchronization. For those who thrive on completionism, each mission includes side objectives that can also be tackled using this time-rewind mechanic.
Community-Driven Development
In the midst of a challenging period for the VR gaming industry, marked by studio layoffs and closures, Game Director Jeremy Moirano remains optimistic about the future. He articulated the rationale behind opting for Early Access with this title:
“While the VR market is navigating a transitional period, I’m convinced there is still a dedicated audience for high-quality, premium solo experiences built around unique VR mechanics and compelling narration. We’ve evolved alongside our players, choosing the self-publishing and Early Access route for the first time. Our goal is to build a community on our social channels that will help us refine the game, ensuring the final experience is the best it can be.”
With Spymaster now available for .99 on Quest and Steam, players can look forward to an engaging experience that promises to evolve with their input. Stay tuned for our upcoming impressions of this intriguing title.
