The upcoming release of Chaos Cubed is generating excitement within the gaming community, heralding a fresh chapter for Minecraft. Announced during Minecraft LIVE in March 2026, this update introduces an innovative underground biome and a remarkable new creature known as the Sulfur Cube.

What is the Sulfur Cube in Minecraft?

The Sulfur Cube is a passive, bucketable mob that thrives in the newly unveiled Sulfur Caves biome. This intriguing entity is immune to fall damage and possesses a unique ability to split into two smaller cubes upon impact. Unlike its slime and magma counterparts, these smaller cubes can grow into larger versions over time. Players can nurture these smaller cubes, akin to baby mobs, by feeding them golden dandelions to halt their maturation process.

One of the Sulfur Cube’s standout features is its capacity to absorb blocks, adopting their physical characteristics in the process. For instance, when it consumes a stone block, it takes on a bouncy, football-like quality, while an iron block transforms it into a denser, harder-to-move entity. Feeding it wood results in a cubic ball behavior, showcasing the cube’s versatility and creativity.

What blocks can Sulfur Cube eat in Minecraft?

The Sulfur Cube has an impressive appetite, capable of consuming a wide array of blocks, including:

  • All variants of wood
  • Stone
  • Coral
  • Slime
  • Honey
  • Sculk
  • Froglight
  • Resin
  • Ore
  • Metallic blocks
  • Ice
  • Concrete
  • Sulfur
  • Cinnabar

However, it is important to note that the Sulfur Cube can only consume full-sized blocks and is unable to absorb walls, stairs, slabs, or fences. Functional blocks such as crafting tables, furnaces, pistons, observers, TNT, and chests are also off-limits.

Once a Sulfur Cube has absorbed a block, it becomes impervious to damage from player attacks, most mob attacks, fall damage, and explosions. Instead of taking damage, it is launched in the direction of the attack, with the force determined by the nature of the hit. To retrieve the absorbed block, players can simply use shears.

While a specific release date for the Chaos Cubed update remains unconfirmed, anticipation builds as Tiny Takeover is set to arrive in late March 2026. The Sulfur Cube is expected to debut in the second quarter of 2026, having already made its appearance in the recent Minecraft Bedrock 26.20.23/24 beta and preview.
