First-party and Game Pass push Xbox revenue up 10%

Microsoft’s Xbox division has demonstrated a robust performance, achieving a notable ten percent increase in revenue. During a recent discussion with investors, Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood highlighted that the games segment experienced a remarkable 13 percent surge in content and services revenue for the financial year 2024/25. This growth can be attributed to the impressive reception of its first-party titles and the expanding popularity of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

Record-Breaking Revenue from Xbox Game Pass

In a significant milestone, Vice President of Investor Relations Jonathan Neilson revealed that Xbox Game Pass generated nearly billion in annual revenue for the first time. This achievement underscores the service’s increasing appeal among gamers. Additionally, Neilson shared that the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 6, has attracted over 50 million players, accumulating an astounding two billion hours of gameplay. This translates to an average of approximately 40 hours per player, showcasing the game’s immersive experience.

The positive trajectory of Microsoft’s content and services revenue has also been bolstered by the successful launch of its first-party titles on rival platforms. Notably, during this quarter, the company introduced Forza Horizon 5 on Sony’s PlayStation hardware, alongside Oblivion Remastered, which was made available across all platforms. This strategic move not only enhances the visibility of Microsoft’s offerings but also fosters a broader gaming community.

Looking ahead, Microsoft is actively developing a diverse portfolio, with around 40 games currently in the pipeline. This commitment to innovation and expansion positions the Xbox brand for continued growth in the competitive gaming landscape.
