FromSoftware parent Kadokawa to expand publishing business

The parent company of From Software, Kadokawa Corporation, has articulated a strategic vision to enhance its publishing capabilities. This ambition was unveiled in the latest financial report, where the company expressed its intent to establish a robust framework aimed at broadening the reach of its in-house publishing operations for both console and PC games.

Expansion Plans and Game Performance

In its pursuit of growth, Kadokawa is particularly focused on maximizing the lifetime value of its flagship title, Elden Ring. The action RPG has continued to perform exceptionally well, with sales experiencing a notable uptick following the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on June 21st. Since its launch in February 2022, Elden Ring has impressively surpassed 25 million copies sold.

Despite the encouraging sales figures for both Elden Ring and its recent DLC, Kadokawa has acknowledged that overall sales within its gaming division may fall short of earlier projections. This is attributed to various project delays and necessary revisions to forecasts. Nevertheless, the company reported a significant increase in financial performance for the first half of the current fiscal year, which concluded on September 30th. Net sales surged by 32.8 percent, reaching ¥18.1 billion (approximately 7.7 million), while operating profit experienced an impressive 50.8 percent rise, totaling ¥6.1 billion (around .7 million).
