Gearbox dates Borderlands 4 Halloween event and its first DLC, and Christmas is coming early to Kairos

Gearbox has unveiled an exciting roadmap for Borderlands 4, detailing both free and paid downloadable content (DLC) slated for release throughout the remainder of the year and into 2025. This announcement came during a special presentation at PAX Australia, where the developer highlighted the forthcoming Bounty Pack paid expansion as a significant feature. For those who have yet to invest in the DLC, there’s good news: players can participate in the Halloween event and take on the first Invincible boss without any additional cost.

As a newcomer to Borderlands 4, having previously lost interest in Borderlands 3, I find myself intrigued by the upcoming DLC offerings. While the game’s narrative wraps up rather gently, it remains a compelling return to form for Gearbox. It stands out as one of the most enjoyable first-person shooters I’ve experienced in years, with an endgame that promises to keep players engaged for the long haul. There are still unexplored areas of Kairos, but fresh content is just around the corner.

Upcoming Events and Expansions

The first event on the horizon is the free, limited-time ‘Horrors of Kairos’, running from Thursday, October 23, to Thursday, November 6. This Halloween-themed event will transform world bosses with a unique “terror-inducing blood rain,” allowing players to acquire two new legendary items. The ‘Murmur’ Tediore assault rifle guarantees critical hits on targets below 35% health, while the ‘Skully’ Order grenade launches projectiles that home in on enemies. Additionally, players can earn a pumpkin head and weapon skin through Borderlands 4 Shift codes during the festivities.

Following the Halloween event, the next major release is the Borderlands 4 Bounty Pack 1, titled ‘How Rush Saved Mercenary Day’, which is set to launch on Thursday, November 20. This festive expansion arrives just in time for the holiday season, featuring a narrative mission that includes candy canes, presents, and Christmas trees. The pack also introduces the first Vault Card, akin to a battle pass, enhancing loot and experience gains as players progress. Expect to see a variety of rewards, including four rerollable legendary weapons, Vault Hunter heads, skins, and a new Digirunner vehicle.

As the year wraps up, December will bring another free update, prominently featuring the first Invincible boss in Borderlands 4. These formidable foes, first introduced in Borderlands 2, are known for their immense health pools and challenging mechanics, pushing players to rethink their strategies. The current roster of bosses is already impressive, and anticipation builds for the Bloomreaper, the new Invincible boss. Defeating this challenge promises a bounty of loot, including opportunities for new legendary items, alongside the introduction of an additional tier in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode to elevate the game’s difficulty.

In a message to the community, Gearbox expressed gratitude to the millions of players enjoying Borderlands 4. They emphasized that the journey with players is just beginning, with a wealth of both paid and free content on the way, along with ongoing performance improvements across all platforms. Players should also be aware of upcoming nerfs targeting certain “unintended interactions” in the game.

For those considering a new playthrough, resources are available to help optimize character builds and performance settings. The community is encouraged to engage with fellow players and share their favorite loadouts, fostering a vibrant discussion around the game.
