Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto V on PC will soon receive the much-anticipated update to the Expanded and Enhanced Edition. This news was revealed in their latest community update, which was shared at the beginning of the month.
Details of the Upcoming Update
In their communication, Rockstar hinted at a wealth of new content on the horizon, stating, “There is much more still to come, including ongoing weekly special events and bonuses, festive celebrations, gifts, surprises, as well as plans to bring the much-requested PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S features of GTA Online to the PC platform in the new year. Please stay tuned to the Rockstar Games Newswire for details.”
The Expanded and Enhanced Edition of Grand Theft Auto V originally launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 15, 2022. This version introduced significant enhancements in graphics and performance, along with various gameplay adjustments that have been a source of excitement and, at times, frustration for gamers.
PC gamers, in particular, have felt the sting of being left behind, as console players enjoyed the ability to tweak settings for improved textures, draw distance, HDR, and notably, ray tracing. The new update promises to rectify this, allowing PC players to experience the game at up to 4K resolution and 60 FPS, although optimal performance will still require top-tier hardware.
While the original version of Grand Theft Auto V was heavily dependent on CPU performance, the Expanded and Enhanced Edition has been better optimized, providing a smoother experience for players. The upcoming PC upgrade is expected to enhance load times significantly and may also introduce features such as 3D audio and haptic feedback, akin to what is available on the PlayStation 5. Additionally, players will gain access to Hao’s Special Works customs auto shop, further enriching the gameplay experience.
There is speculation regarding the timing of this update, particularly in relation to the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6. If the Expanded and Enhanced Edition is set to launch in 2025, it raises questions about whether Grand Theft Auto 6 will also debut that same year. While it remains unclear if Rockstar has plans to delay the next installment beyond the holiday season of 2025, the possibility of staggered release dates is certainly worth considering.
As the gaming community eagerly awaits further announcements from Rockstar, the anticipation continues to build around both the upcoming updates for Grand Theft Auto V and the eventual arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6.
