Hundreds Of Delisted Xbox 360 Games Now Have The Potential To Return On PC
If you happened to be exploring Pure Xbox recently, you might have come across an intriguing piece from Time Extension discussing a groundbreaking tool for Xbox 360 enthusiasts. This innovative software, known as XenonRecomp, opens up a realm of possibilities for reviving classic Xbox titles.
The Mechanics of XenonRecomp
XenonRecomp is designed to transform Xbox 360 executables into C++ code, paving the way for recompilation across various platforms. This means that, in theory, any Xbox 360 game could potentially find a new life on PC, including those that have been delisted from the marketplace. However, it’s important to note that these ports would be unofficial and could face challenges from the original publishers.
While the prospect of porting hundreds of Xbox 360 games is enticing, the reality is that not all titles will make the transition. The process of creating a PC version is reportedly complex and labor-intensive, which may limit the number of games that can be successfully ported.
Despite these challenges, progress is already being made. A recent example is the emergence of a new port for Sonic Unleashed on PC, showcasing the potential of this tool. Many Xbox 360 games were delisted when the old Xbox Store was shuttered last year, including several titles that have yet to appear on any other platform. For these games to continue to exist, XenonRecomp might be one of the few avenues available, although there is hope for alternative solutions in the future.
In a related note, Xbox head Phil Spencer has expressed a desire to explore options for the delisted Xbox 360 games, although it’s unlikely he envisioned this particular method. The gaming community remains optimistic that Xbox is actively seeking ways to reintroduce these beloved titles to modern consoles in an official capacity.
