Fumito Ueda’s New Venture into PC Gaming

Fumito Ueda, the visionary director behind the beloved titles Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his career with the release of a game on the PC. Ueda’s journey began with a year-and-a-half stint as an animator at Kenji Eno’s studio Warp, where he contributed to the horror adventures D and Enemy Zero, both of which made their mark on the ’90s MS-DOS landscape.

His transition to Sony marked a significant turning point, as Ueda dedicated himself to crafting unique experiences exclusively for the PlayStation platform. This commitment endured until the release of The Last Guardian in 2016. Now, in collaboration with Epic Games, Ueda is poised to introduce his next project, the enigmatic Gen Atlas, which will be his first directorial effort to reach PC gamers.

In a recent conversation, Ueda shared insights about Gen Atlas and the potential for his work to engage a broader audience. Despite Sony’s recent strategic shifts, which suggest that a porting of its extensive back catalog to PC is not currently in the pipeline, Ueda remains hopeful. When I expressed my desire to see more of his creations on PC, he responded with a thoughtful, “I hope so too.”
