Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME Roars Onto Mobile & PC Aug. 31 After 850K Pre-Regs

Akatsuki Games, TOHO, and Production I.G have unveiled an exciting development in the gaming world with the announcement of Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME. Set to launch on August 31 (JST), this highly anticipated title will be available on mobile and PC platforms, including the App Store, Google Play, and Steam. The game has already generated significant buzz, with pre-registration opening on April 25 and surpassing an impressive 850,000 sign-ups.

In a collaborative effort with Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ and the creative minds behind the Kaiju No. 8 anime, the game promises to deliver thrilling 3D battles against formidable monstrous foes. Players will step into the shoes of Japan Defense Force units, engaging in combat alongside new characters from the special operations squad CLOZER, under the leadership of Sagan Shinomiya.

New Trailer and Game Features

Accompanying the announcement, a new trailer has been released, showcasing exhilarating combat sequences and striking visuals that highlight Kaiju No. 8 amidst fierce confrontations. Voice actor Masaya Fukunishi, who lends his voice to protagonist Kafka Hibino in the anime, demonstrated the game’s intuitive controls and cinematic “core exposure” ultimates during the Kaiju No. 8 Day Special Program on August 5 (JST). This broadcast also introduced original kaiju designs and captivating cutscenes for the story mode.

Among the newly introduced characters, strategist Chester Lochburn—an ex-U.K. defense officer—brings a wealth of tactical expertise with versatile weapon-selection options. Meanwhile, weapons specialist Suited is set to innovate with armaments inspired by kaiju research. This collaboration aims to enrich the narrative, expanding upon the series’ lore, which has already seen manga sales soar past 18 million copies in Japan.

Players who pre-register will be rewarded with two four-star characters, Mina Ashiro and Soshiro Hoshina, available immediately upon launch. Additionally, once total sign-ups reach one million, players will have the opportunity to select a five-star character of their choice. The game will support multiple languages, including Japanese, English, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, and French.

As Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME prepares to make its debut, it joins a growing array of media expansions, following the theatrical compilation release of the anime’s Season 1 in March and the ongoing broadcast of Season 2 every Saturday night on TV Tokyo, streaming worldwide.
