Marathon’s eagerly anticipated second season is set to commence shortly, and the developers are making waves with an enticing offer for newcomers. From June 2 to June 9, players will have the opportunity to experience the full game free of charge during the Open Play Week. This initiative aims to attract those who may have hesitated to dive into the action, providing a clean slate for all participants. The game will be accessible on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, allowing players to carry over any progress made during this promotional period into Season 2.
New Features and Enhancements
As players gear up for this new chapter, they can expect a host of changes designed to enhance their gaming experience. The storyline promises to evolve, introducing players to new areas of interest, including the Observation science deck, where the UESC has been conducting research on the anomaly. This season will also delve into psychological elements, featuring “Psychosis” and “hallucinations” that will challenge players as they navigate a darkened map, though a flashlight will be at their disposal to aid in exploration.
In addition to narrative developments, Season 2 will introduce two new weapons: the D54 Battle Pistol, equipped with an integrated retina optic, and the KKV, a compact SMG featuring an integrated suppressor, touted for its effectiveness in close-range combat. These additions are expected to invigorate gameplay and may even entice those on the fence about joining the Marathon community.
Production director Emanuel Rosu emphasizes the importance of this seasonal reset, stating that it allows players to embark on a fresh journey from “zero to hero.” Senior design lead Brenton Woodrow echoes this sentiment, expressing a desire for players to recapture the excitement of the game’s initial launch. The reset aims to recreate that sense of discovery, where everything feels new and players are driven to explore new stories and experiences as they progress through the season.
