New Features Enhance Creativity in Minecraft
A significant update has arrived for Minecraft, marking a milestone after 17 years of gameplay. Mojang has introduced a feature that allows players to finally take a seat, adding a layer of comfort and creativity to the beloved block-building experience. The latest Java Snapshot and Bedrock Preview patches unveil the ability to craft a Cushion, a new item that promises to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal within the game.
Players can now rest their weary avatars on a Cushion, a delightful addition that Mojang describes as a way to “seek out an abandoned camp to rest your blocky bones.” This feature was rolled out alongside the introduction of the Dappled Forest biome, enriching the game’s landscape and offering builders fresh opportunities for creativity. The update also brings long-requested materials such as the Poplar Wood set, Wool Stairs and Slabs, and bouncy Shelf Mushrooms, all designed to inspire innovative building techniques.
The Cushion itself is crafted using three Wool Slabs of any color, creating a square seat that can be placed on a supporting block. Notably, these Cushions do not have collision properties, allowing players to position them seamlessly on the lower part of Wood Stairs, effectively transforming them into stylish chairs. Mojang has anticipated this clever use, ensuring that players can enjoy a smooth experience without awkward clipping issues.
Beyond its primary function as a seat, the Cushion offers remarkable versatility. It can serve as a decorative element, whether laid out as a cozy rug or used to enhance the design of various objects. Players can even place a Cushion on a Button or Pressure Plate, although doing so will cause it to depress and break upon sitting. Interestingly, this interaction does not occur with Trapdoors, opening up further possibilities for creative seating arrangements. For those eager to venture out after a moment of relaxation, the new Straw Bed is an essential companion. Crafted from three Hay Bales, players can create four Straw Beds, which stack up to 16. Although single-use and breaking upon waking, their affordability encourages players to carry several on their journeys, while also serving as decorative pieces.
