Monster Hunter Wilds’ first Elder Dragon is finally landing in December along with some much-needed optimisation focused on reducing the game’s ridiculous load on our poor CPUs

Capcom has officially announced the arrival of the much-anticipated Elder Dragon, Gogmazios, in Monster Hunter Wilds, set to debut with Title Update 4 on December 16. This marks a significant moment for fans, as Gogmazios has not graced the series since his formidable appearance as the final boss in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate back in 2015. The excitement surrounding this reveal was palpable during this week’s State of Play Japan.

Performance Enhancements on the Horizon

While the prospect of battling Gogmazios is thrilling, many players are equally intrigued by the promised performance improvements accompanying the update. Capcom has hinted at “weapon buffs” and various enhancements aimed at optimizing gameplay. Director Yuya Tokuda previously addressed concerns regarding CPU optimization in a blog post from August, indicating that the team is dedicated to resolving existing issues with CPU load in the upcoming update.

Tokuda stated, “In regards to CPU load reduction, we plan to address this issue in the fourth title update scheduled for this winter. Once the initial implementation is complete, we will proceed with a second stage of further mitigation issues.” This commitment to improving the game’s performance has sparked hope among players who have experienced frustrating graphics and frame rate issues.

As anticipation builds for the release, players are eager to see if they will finally be able to engage in epic battles with enhanced visuals and smoother gameplay, rather than navigating through what has been described as a “janky blurry stuttery mess.” The excitement for both the return of Gogmazios and the potential for a more polished gaming experience is palpable, setting the stage for an exhilarating winter for Monster Hunter enthusiasts.
