Innovative Gaming RAM with Integrated OLED Displays Unveiled
In a notable development within the realm of PC components, V-Color, a prominent memory manufacturer, has teamed up with motherboard giant Gigabyte to introduce a new series of gaming RAM modules that incorporate integrated OLED displays. The V-Color Manta Xfinity+ OLED RAM kits are designed to enhance the gaming experience by providing real-time system information directly on the RAM modules themselves. This includes critical metrics such as memory temperature, latency timings, and capacity, all displayed on a sleek screen that draws data from the motherboard.
While the practicality of this feature may be up for debate, its aesthetic appeal is undeniable. In an era where gamers often adorn their setups with multiple screens, the addition of an OLED display on RAM modules seems like a fitting evolution. V-Color’s collaboration with Gigabyte ensures that these modules are not only visually striking but also seamlessly integrated, requiring no additional cables or connections. Power and data are sourced directly from the motherboard’s DIMM slots, allowing the display to activate during the power-on-self-test (POST) cycle, well before the operating system boots up.
Notably, only one module in each dual-channel kit is equipped with the OLED display; the second module remains a standard RGB DIMM. This design choice acknowledges the reality that, once installed, only the front edge of one memory module is visible. However, V-Color has plans to expand its offerings, with intentions to release dummy RGB modules in the future, enabling users to fill all four DIMM slots with RGB aesthetics without incurring the cost of additional memory.
At launch, the available kits will support both Intel XMP and AMD EXPO profiling technologies. For AMD systems, an ultra-low timing 32GB kit will be offered, featuring a speed of 6,000MT/s and latency timings as low as CL26. High-performance options will also be available, reaching speeds of up to 9,000MT/s with CL42 timings. Intel users can expect kits certified for the new Intel 200S boost mode, operating at 8,000MT/s with CL40 timings, alongside even faster options peaking at 9,066MT/s.
While V-Color has yet to disclose pricing details, the new modules are set to be available exclusively through Newegg in both black and white color schemes, with broader availability through other retailers like Amazon anticipated later on. As the market for innovative PC components continues to evolve, V-Color’s patented OLED screen system may prompt competitors to explore similar enhancements in their own product lines.
