Nvidia has announced the rollout of its latest GPU driver, version 621.01, which integrates Microsoft’s innovative Advanced Shader Delivery technology. This new feature is designed to enhance the gaming experience by significantly speeding up game launches and eliminating the frustrating mid-game “just-in-time” shader compilation that often leads to stuttering and CPU spikes.
The Advanced Shader Delivery technology operates by leveraging the cloud to offload shader compilation for various hardware configurations. As explained by Nvidia’s Andrew Burnes, developers utilize DirectX 12, Windows 11, and the Microsoft Agility SDK to capture shaders into a State Object Database (SODB). This allows Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure to precompile shaders for a vast array of hardware and driver combinations, streamlining the gaming process.
Enhanced Gaming Experience
Notable titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 are now compatible with Advanced Shader Delivery, provided they are downloaded through the Xbox PC app. Burnes emphasizes that this system is storefront-agnostic, meaning players can enjoy the benefits even when using games purchased on platforms like Steam, as long as the Xbox PC app is installed on their systems.
With this technology, gamers can bypass the tedious shader compilation screens in Call of Duty, leading to a smoother overall performance in supported games. The system boasts a near-100 percent cache hit rate, effectively eliminating mid-game shader compilation, thus reducing CPU spikes and frame stutters in titles such as Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
For those looking to take advantage of these advancements, Nvidia’s latest driver update can be downloaded directly. Additionally, Advanced Shader Delivery is also compatible with AMD GPUs running Adrenalin version 26.6.1 or higher, as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 series with driver version 2026.08.3 or higher.
