Nvidia’s new app lets you precompile gaming shaders during machine idle time

PC gamers often find themselves in a frustrating limbo, waiting for their games to compile shaders during load times. However, the latest beta version of the Nvidia App offers a promising solution that could enhance the gaming experience significantly.

Introducing Auto Shader Compilation

At the heart of this update is Nvidia’s innovative Auto Shader Compilation system, designed to streamline the gaming process. This feature aims to reduce the frequency of game runtime compilation after driver updates, providing a smoother experience for users operating on Nvidia’s GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.97 WHQL or later. When enabled, the app takes advantage of idle moments to automatically rebuild DirectX drivers for your games, ensuring they are primed and ready for action the next time you launch them.

Upon downloading the Nvidia App, users will find this feature turned off by default. To activate it, they can navigate to the Graphics Tab, select Global Settings, and then access Shader Cache. Here, users can allocate disk space for precompiled shaders and determine the extent of system resources dedicated to the compilation process.

For those who prefer a more hands-on approach, the app also allows users to manually initiate shader recompilation, eliminating the need to wait for their machines to go idle. This flexibility empowers gamers to tailor their experience according to their preferences, ensuring that they can dive into their favorite titles with minimal delay.
