PC gamers finally get iconic franchise on Xbox Game Pass

Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions have made their long-awaited debut on Xbox Game Pass for PC, marking a significant milestone for fans of the franchise. For the first time, these iconic role-playing games can be streamed on platforms beyond traditional consoles, expanding their reach to a broader audience.

Delayed but Not Forgotten

The arrival of these beloved titles comes after an unexpected delay, as they were initially slated to join Microsoft’s subscription service back in October. This postponement left many PC players anxious about the potential absence of these classics from the platform. However, the wait is over, and players can now immerse themselves in the rich worlds of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II.

For those new to the series, these RPGs offer an isometric perspective that allows players to create their own characters, traverse enchanting landscapes, embark on quests, recruit a diverse array of companions, and engage in battles against formidable foes. Originally released in 1998 and 2000, respectively, both games received Enhanced Editions in 2019, featuring upgraded visuals, a modernized user interface, and a variety of expansion packs.

A Challenge for Completionists

Achievement hunters will find these games particularly challenging, with estimates suggesting that unlocking every achievement could take between 150 to 200 hours. This level of commitment speaks to the depth and complexity that the Baldur’s Gate series is known for.

As these classics join the Game Pass lineup, it’s worth noting that the service is also preparing for some departures. Following the recent removal of titles like Return to Monkey Island and Metal Slug Tactics, five more games are set to leave the platform on November 11, according to the ‘Leaving Soon’ section. The titles on the chopping block include:

  • Football Manager 2024
  • Frostpunk
  • Spirittea
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
  • Blacksmith Master

The removal of Blacksmith Master is particularly surprising, given that it was added to the service as a day-one release just a few months ago, leading many to speculate that its departure might have been an error.

Yet, amidst these changes, there is excitement on the horizon for Game Pass subscribers. The highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on November 14, promising to deliver another thrilling experience for gamers.
