In a significant shift for its user base, Roblox is set to retire its Premium subscription model in favor of a new offering called Roblox Plus, effective April 30. While existing subscribers can maintain their current plan, they will forfeit certain advantages, including bonus Robux. The transition to Roblox Plus promises a more attractive package for users at a fixed monthly rate of .99.
Enhanced Features and Benefits
Roblox Plus will become the sole subscription option, phasing out Premium entirely. The new model introduces a range of appealing features designed to enhance the user experience. Subscribers will enjoy a 10% discount on in-game purchases, which can escalate to 20% for those who maintain their subscription for three consecutive months. This discount is funded by Roblox, ensuring that creators receive full compensation for their items sold.
Additionally, Roblox Plus subscribers will gain access to free and unlimited private servers across all supported games, fostering a more secure online environment. This feature also benefits creators, who can earn up to 100 Robux for every Plus user who spends at least 60 minutes in their private server within a 30-day timeframe. Payments will be awarded based on the five private servers where each user spends the most time.
Incentives for Creators
Creators have further opportunities to earn through the new subscription model. By encouraging players to sign up for Roblox Plus within their games, creators can receive a bonus of 250 Robux for each new subscriber, continuing for up to three months if the user remains active. This initiative aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem between Roblox and its creators.
Trading capabilities have also been expanded under Roblox Plus. Users can trade and resell avatar items, publish them on the Roblox Marketplace, and transfer Robux to other players without incurring transaction fees. To maintain security, particularly for younger users, parental or caregiver approval will be required for Robux transfers. Chief Business Officer Enrico D’Angelo emphasized the importance of age verification, stating that users must be 18 or older to send or receive Robux without parental consent.
Future Developments
Although not available at launch, Roblox plans to introduce optional extras shortly thereafter, allowing users to bundle their subscriptions with additional Robux in increments of 500, 1,000, or 2,000. Pricing for these bundles will align with the current Premium offerings. Notably, the 10% bonus on additional Robux purchases will be eliminated with the transition to Roblox Plus.
As the launch date approaches, Roblox is poised to redefine its subscription landscape. “Roblox Plus provides a new path for users who want to get more out of the platform and for creators looking for more ways to earn,” D’Angelo remarked. “This launch is only the beginning. We are already developing new benefits to ensure that Roblox Plus continues to evolve alongside the community and enables more fun for years to come.”
