Schedule 1’s Journey to Success
In a remarkable turn of events, Schedule 1 emerged as one of the standout surprises of 2025. This lo-fi drug dealing simulator, crafted by the talented solo developer Tyler, skyrocketed to the pinnacle of Steam’s best-selling games chart upon its release. Despite its unassuming appearance, the game has garnered praise for its engaging systems and well-paced progression, a sentiment echoed by PC Gamer’s Chris Livingston.
Fast forward ten months, and Tyler is excited to announce that his venture, aptly named Tyler’s Video Game Studio (TVGS), has officially evolved into what he describes as “an actual game studio.” The team is currently in the process of expanding, with plans to recruit a 3D/technical artist. By the end of the year, the roster is expected to grow to four dedicated individuals working on Schedule 1.
Reflecting on the industry’s history, Tyler acknowledges the infamous trajectory of Ion Storm, characterized by a tumultuous blend of success, wealth, expansion, and eventual implosion. While he does not foresee a similar fate for TVGS and Schedule 1, he admits to a cautious approach, inspired by the likes of Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley. Tyler humorously notes that selling 10 million copies of his game might just warrant a new desk.
Looking ahead, Tyler has shared that a new patch focused on bug fixes and quality of life improvements is set to roll out next week. The remainder of the month will be dedicated to onboarding Rob, the newest member of the team. “This will be the final round of major refactoring and will leave the game in a strong position for future development,” Tyler explained. He emphasized that this step is crucial for implementing proper mod support.
Following the upcoming patch, players can anticipate another update, tentatively scheduled for late February. Tyler has learned from past experiences with delayed updates and assures fans that a release date will only be confirmed once the team is confident in their ability to meet it.
