Malmo-based Sharkmob has announced a series of job cuts as part of a strategic reorganization. According to reports from GI.biz, the Tencent-owned studio is implementing these changes in response to what it describes as “a challenging environment for game developers.” In a statement, Sharkmob characterized the layoffs as “difficult but necessary steps,” emphasizing their intent to “sharpen our focus and align our efforts on the continued development of Exoborne while positioning ourselves for sustainable growth.”
Focus on Exoborne
As Sharkmob navigates this transitional phase, the studio remains committed to its ambitious project, Exoborne, a sci-fi extraction shooter that has yet to announce a release date. The game recently underwent a public playtest, providing valuable insights that will inform its ongoing development.
In addition to the job cuts, Sharkmob made headlines earlier this year with the closure of its London studio, further underscoring the company’s efforts to streamline operations and concentrate resources on its core projects. The decisions reflect a broader trend within the gaming industry, where studios are increasingly adapting to the evolving market landscape.
