Streator Public Library offers Minecraft, arts, and games

The Streator Public Library is embracing the summer season with an exciting array of programs designed to engage the community. This week’s offerings cater to a diverse audience, ensuring that everyone finds something to enjoy.

Summer Programs at the Library

Among the highlights is the Minecraft Ore Scavenger Hunt, which runs until July 25. Participants can explore the library in search of hidden treasures, making it a thrilling adventure for all ages. For younger enthusiasts, the Lego Club welcomes children aged 5 and up throughout the week, fostering creativity and teamwork.

On July 22, from 4 to 6 p.m., the library will host a special Minecraft movie screening, providing a perfect opportunity for fans of the game to gather and enjoy a cinematic experience together.

Teens and older children can look forward to the “Are You Smarter Than a Librarian?” robotics challenge on July 20 at 4:30 p.m. This engaging event invites participants to showcase their skills in building STEM robots, with prizes awaiting those who excel. Additionally, a Murder Mystery Meetup for teens is set for July 22 at 6 p.m., promising an evening of intrigue and problem-solving.

Art enthusiasts can participate in Afternoon Watercolor on July 21 and Evening Acrylic on July 23, both tailored for ages 10 and up. For those looking to blend creativity with hands-on activities, Minecraft IRL craft and building sessions are scheduled for July 24 and 25.

The Dig In Reading Club will convene on July 21 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., offering attendees a delightful mix of free pizza, engaging stories, and fun games. Participants who attend four reading club events will earn an invitation to a special YMCA Pizza & Swim party, adding an extra incentive to join in.

Other engaging programs include Book Buddy Storytime and Game Time on July 22, as well as Mother Goose Club for toddlers on July 23. The week will conclude with Indoor Volleyball on July 25, providing an active option for participants.

Looking ahead, the library is set to host the Artist to Be Expo from August 3 to August 8, featuring the Community Canvas project. The opening reception on August 3 from 3 to 7 p.m. will be a festive occasion, complete with food, drinks, and live music.
