British game developer Supermassive has announced a significant restructuring within its ranks, leading to job cuts that will affect approximately 36 employees. In a heartfelt message shared on their social media platforms, the studio, renowned for its work on the Dark Pictures series, expressed the difficult nature of this decision, attributing it to ongoing challenges within the gaming industry.
Support for Affected Employees
Supermassive emphasized that their primary focus during this transition will be to provide comprehensive support to those impacted by the layoffs. The studio acknowledged the emotional toll this situation may take on its workforce, stating, “This decision was not taken lightly, and we know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone.”
In addition to the workforce reductions, Supermassive has also announced a delay in the release of its highly anticipated sci-fi horror title, Directive 8020. Originally slated for an earlier launch, the game is now set to debut in the first half of 2026. The studio reassured fans that the response to Directive 8020 has been overwhelmingly positive, and the additional development time will ensure a polished and immersive experience for players.
“We’re deeply grateful for the patience and support of our community,” the company stated, highlighting their commitment to delivering quality content. Importantly, Supermassive confirmed that this restructuring will not affect the development of Little Nightmares 3, allowing fans to look forward to that project without disruption.
