Take-Two chief is ‘deeply disappointed’ that we still don’t have a new BioShock game

Creating a new installment in the BioShock franchise appears to be a more complex endeavor than one might anticipate. The series, which captivated audiences with its unique storytelling and immersive environments, has not seen a new release since the launch of BioShock Infinite in 2013. Following the initial trio of games—BioShock in 2007, BioShock 2 in 2010, and BioShock Infinite—fans have been left in a state of eager anticipation.

In 2018, there were glimmers of hope when Hangar 13 began preliminary work on a new title within the series. However, that initiative ultimately lost momentum and did not materialize into a full-fledged project. Recently, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind BioShock, shared his thoughts on the prolonged absence of new content during an interview with Stephen Totilo’s Game File. While Zelnick expressed his disappointment regarding the timeline, he admitted that he was not entirely surprised by the delays.

Leadership Changes and Project Reset

The BioShock franchise is now under the stewardship of Cloud Chamber, a studio tasked with reviving the beloved series. The appointment of a new director, who previously played a pivotal role in the development of BioShock Infinite, signifies a fresh start for the project. The president of 2K Games noted that after several years of development, the decision was made to rework certain fundamental elements that are essential to the BioShock experience.

This transition has not been without its challenges. Reports indicate that over 80 employees, approximately one-third of Cloud Chamber’s workforce, were laid off in the wake of this restructuring. Such significant changes can often lead to uncertainty, and while there is optimism surrounding the new direction, it is clear that the journey to the next BioShock installment is still in its early stages.

As fans continue to hold their breath for the next chapter in this iconic series, it seems that the lighthouse remains just out of reach, with a considerable wait still ahead before it comes into view.
