Electronic Arts has made a subtle yet significant move in the realm of digital gaming by removing one of its spin-off titles from online stores. Following the celebratory 25th anniversary of The Sims series last year, EA had reintroduced both the original The Sims and The Sims 2 to digital platforms such as Steam and the EA App, enabling fans to expand their collections with all four mainline games readily available. However, not all titles have enjoyed the same fate.
According to reports from Sims Community, the spin-off game The Sims Medieval, released in 2011, has been quietly delisted and is no longer available for purchase. This unique entry transported players to a medieval setting, diverging from the traditional gameplay of The Sims by placing a greater emphasis on narrative and quests. Players took on the role of a ‘Hero Sim,’ tasked with building a prosperous kingdom by fulfilling their character’s ambitions, which varied based on their backstories.
While this shift meant that the hallmark open-ended gameplay of The Sims was somewhat diminished, The Sims Medieval introduced a host of engaging elements. The game’s RPG mechanics and storytelling aspects provided a refreshing twist, revitalizing a franchise that had begun to feel repetitive. Until recently, the game remained available for both physical and digital purchase.
The Sims Medieval Is No Longer Available For Purchase
As noted by Sims Resource, The Sims Medieval was quietly removed from Steam on March 10, 2026. Although the EA App still lists the game, it is marked as “Not Available” for purchase, redirecting potential buyers to other titles in the franchise, such as The Sims 3 and The Sims 4.
For those who had previously purchased The Sims Medieval on either platform, access remains intact. Players can still find the game in their libraries and download it at their convenience, even if it is not currently installed. However, new players eager to experience this medieval adventure will need to seek out physical copies. While new copies may command a higher price due to the game’s age, pre-owned versions can often be found for around five dollars on various third-party marketplaces.
The Sims Medieval exemplifies Electronic Arts and Maxis’ willingness to explore diverse gaming experiences beyond the traditional framework of The Sims. Other notable experiments include The Sims Castaway Stories, which took players to a deserted island, and The Urbz: Sims in the City, a console-exclusive version set in an urban environment.
