‘They listened! They listened!’: Stalker restores Soviet monument after angry fans tanked its Steam reviews, and they couldn’t be happier
In the wake of a rocky launch that saw the Stalker trilogy’s Steam reviews plummet to ‘Mostly negative,’ GSC Game World has swiftly responded with the release of patch 1.0.1. This update aims to enhance the experience of players engaging with the “fully remastered and optimised” versions of the original Stalker games. Among the fixes are improvements to stability across various platforms, adjustments to settings retention, and notably, the restoration of “missing geometry on several levels.”
Fans React to Improvements
While the technical jargon may not spark immediate excitement, the significance of the restored geometry cannot be overlooked. Following the remasters’ debut last Tuesday, players voiced their dissatisfaction over various issues, including blurry graphics, which some, however, found less problematic after extensive gameplay. A particularly vocal concern was the removal of the Russian audio setting and the omission of iconic Soviet landmarks.
One user on the Stalker subreddit expressed cautious optimism, stating, “The Enhanced Edition still has some issues but goddamn it, so glad they actually work on fixing the game and do not ignore the feedback.” This sentiment has been echoed by others, with comments highlighting the importance of the historical context provided by these landmarks. “Yeah, these landmarks are part of the Zone and area stuck in time, history. No reason to remove them. Good call GSC,” remarked another player.
With GSC concluding the patch notes with a commitment to “continue to work on improving the trilogy,” fans are hopeful that further updates will address lingering issues, including the graphical blurriness and any remaining Soviet artifacts that have yet to be restored. While the reintroduction of Russian audio seems unlikely for various reasons, the allure of the Zone as a timeless setting is deeply intertwined with its Soviet relics.
In a message to the community, GSC stated, “Stalkers, we care about your feedback and are working on fixing the most critical issues. We really want to make your comeback to the Zone special.” With the remasters already regarded as the premier way to experience these classics, the ongoing improvements may well elevate them to a status that resonates with both nostalgia and innovation.
