My passion for tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) is well-known among my peers. Whether I find myself rolling unfortunate dice in Vampire: The Masquerade or conjuring mischief as an aasimar bard in Dungeons and Dragons, the thrill of adventure keeps me engaged. Recently, at TennoCon 2025, Digital Extremes announced an exciting collaboration with Paizo to develop a one-shot adventure themed around the year 1999 for Starfinder, the sci-fi counterpart to Pathfinder. Just in time for Halloween, Operation Orias is now available, along with a stylish set of dice that any goblin enthusiast would cherish.
Exploring the Worlds of Starfinder and Pathfinder
For those unfamiliar with Starfinder or Pathfinder—a surprising oversight—both games draw inspiration from the third edition of Dungeons and Dragons, employing the classic D20 system seen in popular titles like Baldur’s Gate 3. While Pathfinder immerses players in a high-fantasy realm, Starfinder boldly ventures into the cosmos, blending space exploration with elements of magic. Furthermore, a new virtual installment, Starfinder: Afterlight, is set to launch in 2026.
The collaboration with Warframe is a natural fit, given that Digital Extremes’ expansive MMO is set in a space environment, with the Duviri Paradox adding a layer of fantasy. Operation Orias transports players to the gritty universe of 1999, reminiscent of the iconic Metal Gear Solid aesthetic that captured my imagination two years ago. This one-shot adventure allows players to embody four Protoframes—humans transformed by the virus that birthed the Warframes—inviting them to engage in a thrilling narrative.
The Mission of Operation Orias
The premise of Operation Orias is straightforward: the Corpus are up to no good, and it falls to players to thwart their plans. Having captured a pack of Infested Chargers—dog-like creatures harboring the deadly Infestation virus—the Corpus aim to develop a new medicine from their tissue, enhancing their agents’ resistance to toxins. This advancement could significantly bolster their combat capabilities and line their pockets with substantial profits. It is up to the Hex to intervene and stop this scheme.
Players can choose from four distinct Protoframe classes: Amir, Aoi, Arthur, and Lettie. Each character offers a unique playstyle: Amir excels in “hit and run” tactics, Aoi emphasizes “communication and situational awareness,” the charismatic Arthur is a “reckless” warrior wielding a longsword, and Lettie serves as the medic, equipped with abilities to support her allies. While these characters serve as the foundation for Operation Orias, community developer Connor Neumann encourages players to collaborate with their Dungeon Masters (DMs) to create and embody their own fictional Protoframes within any universe they desire.
Fast-Paced Gameplay and Creative Freedom
True to the essence of Warframe, this module promises fast-paced, exhilarating gameplay. A glance at the rulebook reveals that every character can perform a Bullet Jump, leaping 25 feet before freefalling, alongside various iterations of the classic Energy Shield mechanic. These abilities can be adapted for other Protoframes, allowing players to unleash their creativity in collaboration with their DMs to bring unique characters to life.
While I have long been a fan of D&D, Operation Orias presents an enticing opportunity to explore the world of Starfinder. The adventure is available for purchase at .99 for a physical copy and .99 for a PDF, with physical editions limited to just 2,000 prints. Each purchase also includes a Starfinder-inspired glyph.
