‘We want to start today by apologising’: Phasmophobia is fixing issues with its Player Character update after a slew of complaints

Phasmophobia’s recent update, released just before the highly anticipated collaboration with Alan Wake, has sparked considerable discontent among its player base. In response to the backlash, the developers have issued a public apology, acknowledging the missteps that accompanied the Player Character Update.

Developer’s Acknowledgment

In a candid blog post, the team expressed, “We want to start today by apologising for our Player Character Update that launched last week. It’s clear we missed the mark on this, and didn’t deliver on our promises to you. Your feedback and your reviews were justified.” The developers noted that their team has expanded significantly over the past year, which has raised expectations that they unfortunately did not meet with this release.

Players have reported a range of issues, including misaligned character animations and problematic interactions with objects. One particularly notable complaint highlighted the awkward movement of character legs, leading to a less-than-ideal gaming experience. A player lamented, “The bendiness of the legs, just why? And the worst part is the stutter when you have your video-cam equipped; it gives you straight up motion sickness.”

The intention behind the Player Character Update was to refresh Phasmophobia ahead of the collaboration with Alan Wake. However, many players expressed nostalgia for the original characters, appreciating their unique quirks despite their imperfections. The developers acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, “We know we now have a long journey ahead of us to earn back this community’s trust.” They also mentioned plans to enhance transparency in their development process, promising to share more about future updates as they work towards the game’s 1.0 release.

While the latest patch addressed some issues, such as head orientation and body movement, a palpable sense of fatigue remains within the community. Players have pointed out a pattern of subpar updates followed by quick fixes, raising hopes that this time, the lessons learned will lead to more substantial improvements in the future.
