What PC system do you need to run LEGO Horizon Adventures with 60FPS?

Sony has made a notable entry into the gaming landscape with the release of LEGO Horizon Adventures on PC. Initially, there was little intention to delve into its performance, but a wave of user feedback prompted a closer examination of the game’s capabilities. The question on many gamers’ minds is: what kind of PC setup is necessary to achieve a smooth 60FPS experience?

Performance Testing Insights

For our performance tests, we utilized a robust system featuring an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D paired with 32GB of DDR5 RAM clocked at 6000MHz, alongside the powerful NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. The operating system was Windows 10 64-bit, and we employed the GeForce 566.14 driver. Although a newer driver is available, the performance observed was already commendable. Additionally, we opted to disable the second CCD on the 7950X3D for our testing.

Notably, LEGO Horizon Adventures supports DLSS 3 Super Resolution and Frame Generation, although it lacks support for AMD FSR 3.0 or Intel XeSS, which may disappoint users without an RTX 40 series GPU. At Native 4K with Epic Settings, the game achieved a respectable 47FPS on the RTX 4090. However, by enabling DLSS 3 Quality, we consistently exceeded 80FPS, and with DLSS 3 Frame Generation, we surpassed 120FPS.

The good news is that the in-game settings offer substantial performance enhancements. By adjusting the settings to High, we maintained over 60FPS at Native 4K. Further reductions to Medium and Low settings yielded even more significant performance gains. This adaptability suggests that, unlike some early Unreal Engine 5 titles, LEGO Horizon Adventures can effectively scale down for older GPUs.

While the Epic Settings are indeed demanding, the High Settings deliver impressive visuals without compromising performance. Many players may find it difficult to discern a noticeable difference between Epic and High settings. Thus, while Epic settings present a challenge, High settings provide an excellent balance of aesthetics and performance.

Visually, LEGO Horizon Adventures impresses with its signature art style, reminiscent of previous LEGO titles. The graphics are on par with LEGO Builder’s Journey, but this time, players are treated to a vast, interactive world filled with destructible objects. The visual presentation is nothing short of stunning, leaving little room for criticism.

In summary, a high-end GPU like the RTX 4090 can run this latest Unreal Engine 5 game at 60FPS in Native 4K on High Settings or at Epic Settings with DLSS 3 Quality. For those with GPUs comparable to the RTX 3080, the game is playable at 1080p on Epic or 1440p on High. The ability to scale graphics settings means that DLSS 3 is not a necessity for enjoying the game; players can opt for High settings without sacrificing visual quality.

It’s also worth noting that LEGO Horizon Adventures does not demand a high-end CPU. Our testing revealed minimal CPU usage, and while some minor traversal or shader compilation stutters occurred, they were infrequent and did not detract from the overall experience. This title does not fall into the category of a “UE5 stutter-fest,” allowing players to enjoy a smooth gaming experience.
