By opting to stream larger games rather than installing them on internal or external SSDs, gamers can manage their storage more efficiently. This update coincides with ongoing enhancements to the Xbox PC app, which has previously introduced features such as PC storefront aggregation. Moreover, these developments are strategically aligned with the upcoming launch of the Xbox Ally handheld device, expected to debut in 2025. The Xbox Ally will integrate with the Xbox PC app while also offering the flexibility for players to install and utilize other storefronts.
“Stream Your Own Game” is growing steadily
The journey of “Stream Your Own Game” began years ago and saw its first rollout last fall, initially featuring a selection of 50 games available for streaming through a browser at Xbox.com/play. Among these titles was Larian Studios’ critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3. Since then, the library has expanded significantly, welcoming popular games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Final Fantasy 16, and Subnautica.
This feature has also been made available on a variety of devices, including Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, as well as LG and Samsung Smart TVs, and Meta Quest headsets. To take advantage of this streaming capability, players must purchase a copy of the game and hold a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which also enables streaming of Xbox first-party titles and a wide array of other games in the Game Pass library.
