Last year, I shared exciting news about Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind your dad’s beloved TV series, Yellowstone, who is currently penning the script for the upcoming Call of Duty movie. Directed by Peter Berg and likely featuring Mark Wahlberg, this collaboration marks yet another chapter in their successful partnership, having previously worked together on five films.
Expanding the Sheridan Universe
Now, fresh developments are emerging from the same creative realm. According to a recent interview with Shawn Kittelsen, head of creative and production at the newly established Paramount Games Studio, there are plans to transform Yellowstone into a video game. Polygon reported that while the studio’s inaugural project is the highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, it is also setting its sights on the expansive world of cattle-ranching cowboys.
Kittelsen expressed enthusiasm for the potential of Yellowstone and its related titles, including Landman and Tulsa King, stating, “All of the Yellowstone and Yellowstone-adjacent titles are priorities for us.” Although specific details about the gameplay remain under wraps, Kittelsen emphasized the importance of partnering with the right collaborators to explore the vast possibilities ahead.
“We are cultural stewards,” Kittelsen remarked, highlighting the significance of these narratives and characters to the fans who invest their time and resources into them. “We need to honor that relationship, or we will lose them. If we start willy-nilly licensing everything just to check boxes and fill the coffers, people will get wise to it, and we won’t actually see the success that we could.”
In addition to Yellowstone, the studio is also exploring other Paramount properties, including Star Trek, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Lioness, and even SpongeBob SquarePants. This broad interest suggests that nearly every show in the Paramount catalog could potentially be adapted into a game. For fans eager to experience a co-op game based on Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, or even the rumored 1944, patience may be required as the studio navigates this ambitious venture.
