On Friday, a significant outage affected Meta’s popular platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, leaving thousands of users grappling with access issues. Reports of the disruption surged on social media and were prominently featured on outage-tracking site Downdetector.
According to Downdetector, the number of complaints regarding Instagram skyrocketed, jumping from a typical baseline of 25 to several thousand. Users reported being unexpectedly logged out, facing difficulties loading the app, or encountering issues accessing their accounts altogether.
Meta’s communications vice president, Andy Stone, acknowledged the situation on X, stating, “We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it.”
Frustration among users was palpable, with many turning to Downdetector’s comment section to express their grievances. One user described encountering a “Blank page,” while another lamented being “logged out of my account out of nowhere” and unable to sign back in.
The outage was not limited to Instagram alone. Users on X reported being logged out of both Facebook and Messenger, only to be met with error messages when attempting to log back in.
