Meta hit with global outage, thousands unable to access Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp

In a significant disruption affecting its vast user base, Meta has encountered a global outage that has rendered many of its platforms inaccessible. Reports indicate that users have faced difficulties accessing Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, with complaints surging early Thursday morning.

Details of the Outage

According to Downdetector, a website dedicated to tracking online service disruptions, issues began to emerge around 4:30 AM AEDT. The site recorded over 100,000 complaints from users struggling to connect to Meta’s services.

Meta has acknowledged the situation, taking to X to inform users of the ongoing technical difficulties. The company updated its “status and outages of Meta business products” page, confirming the issues affecting its applications.

In its communication, Meta stated, “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.”

The irony of Meta’s announcement on a competing platform has not gone unnoticed. Users have taken to social media to comment on the situation, with one user quipping, “Do you find the irony in posting on your competitor’s app that your apps aren’t working?” Another added, “It’s almost poetic that you’re using the competitor’s app to update everyone on yours being down.”

As the situation develops, users remain hopeful for a swift resolution to restore access to the platforms that have become integral to daily communication and social interaction.
