Transition to Digital Banking
In a significant shift towards digital banking, Santander has announced that it will discontinue the annual paper statement detailing banking fees for its millions of customers. Starting in August, the high street bank will no longer send out the yearly Statement of Fees, which has traditionally provided a comprehensive summary of charges incurred over the past year.
Customers seeking to review their banking fees will now need to access this information through Santander’s online or mobile banking platforms. The annual statement, which previously included a breakdown of various charges such as overdraft interest and fees for international debit card usage, will be replaced by a digital-only approach.
According to Santander, while the physical statement will no longer be mailed, customers can still access the same information digitally at their convenience. The bank emphasizes that this transition is part of its broader initiative to promote paper-free banking and enhance digital services.
For those accustomed to receiving a yearly summary, the bank assures that fee information remains readily available through its online and mobile banking services. Additionally, details for individual accounts can still be found in each account’s Fee Information Document.
- 9.2 million customers have already opted for paper-free banking.
- Customers will receive email notifications when new statements or documents are ready for viewing.
- Documents can be accessed online for up to seven years, with options to download or print if necessary.
As the banking industry increasingly encourages customers to manage their accounts digitally, this move reflects a growing trend towards online services. Customers will now need to adapt to this change by checking their fees through Santander’s digital platforms rather than relying on the annual paper statement that has been a staple of banking correspondence.
