Android Auto apps hit with an annoying scrolling problem [Video]
Recent reports from Android Auto users indicate a frustrating bug affecting app scrolling functionality. This issue has emerged as a significant concern, particularly for those attempting to navigate their music libraries or podcast lists while on the road.
Typically, Android Auto imposes restrictions on scrolling within apps to enhance safety during driving. However, a new bug has exacerbated this limitation, rendering scrolling nearly impossible for many users. Complaints have surfaced over the past few months, with various applications—including Amazon Music, Podcast Addict, and SoundCloud—experiencing this scrolling malfunction.
Interestingly, the scrolling issue appears to be linked to the playback status of the media. Users have reported that when music is playing, they are unable to scroll beyond a few rows before being reverted to the top of the list. In contrast, when playback is paused, scrolling functions normally, as demonstrated by a developer who encountered this glitch while creating a new media app for the platform.
The underlying cause of this issue seems to stem from the framework used by most media apps on Android Auto, suggesting that the problem lies not with individual developers but rather with a recent update to Android Auto itself. The bug first emerged in early February 2025, and since then, it has garnered increased attention, with discussions about it trending on Google’s forums.
Prior to this scrolling issue, users had also reported challenges with the “search by letter” feature in YouTube Music, indicating a broader pattern of functionality problems within the platform.
As of now, there is no official timeline for a fix. Users experiencing this issue are encouraged to share their experiences in the comments section, contributing to a growing dialogue about this ongoing challenge.
