Apple TV’s Android app adds Google Cast support, right as Netflix removed it

Apple has taken a significant step in enhancing user experience by integrating Google Cast support into the Apple TV app for Android. This new functionality allows users to effortlessly stream their favorite shows and movies from the app to larger screens, such as smart TVs and projectors, much like they have been able to do with other popular streaming services.

Casting from Apple TV app on Android is now possible

With the latest update, version 2.2.0, users can easily find the new Cast icon within the Apple TV app. By tapping this icon, they can select from a variety of compatible devices, including Chromecast and Google TV, for immediate playback. For those who haven’t yet seen this feature, a quick update through the Google Play Store will unlock this capability.

Apple’s decision to embrace Google Cast stands in stark contrast to Netflix’s recent move to eliminate Cast support from its app for Google TV and Chromecast devices that come equipped with remotes. While Netflix restricts its casting options, Apple has chosen to allow casting on all compatible devices, broadening access for users across different platforms.

This strategic enhancement not only simplifies the streaming process for Apple TV users but also highlights the platform’s growing appeal. Viewers can now enjoy acclaimed series and films such as Severance, Slow Horses, The Morning Show, Pluribus, and F1 The Movie with greater ease. Additionally, Apple TV is evolving into a formidable player in the sports streaming arena, offering coverage for Major League Soccer, Friday Night Baseball, and Formula 1 races in the U.S., catering to a broader audience that may not own Apple devices.

The timing of this rollout is particularly noteworthy, as it positions Apple TV as a more versatile option for streaming enthusiasts, especially in light of recent developments in the competitive streaming landscape.
