In a significant move reflecting the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency regulation, Binance’s Android app has been removed from Google Play in Spain and Latvia. This decision comes amid increasing scrutiny surrounding the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation.
Regulatory Landscape Shifts
Google has established a requirement for crypto exchanges that aim to serve EU users to possess a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) authorization. Currently, Binance does not hold this crucial license, having withdrawn its MiCA application in Greece prior to the 1 July deadline.
It is important to note that this removal is not applicable across the entire EU. The Binance app continues to be accessible on Google Play in several countries, including Poland, and remains available for download from alternative Android stores outside of Google’s ecosystem.
This development underscores the intensifying regulatory pressures faced by major cryptocurrency exchanges as the enforcement of MiCA regulations becomes more stringent throughout the European Union.
