In a welcome development for users of the Gmail app on Android, the persistent Google Meet button that has long occupied a spot at the bottom of the inbox can now be removed. While the process may require a bit of effort, particularly for those managing multiple accounts, it ultimately grants users greater control over their interface.
Get rid of that annoying Meet button at the bottom of Gmail
To eliminate the Google Meet tab, begin by accessing the menu button located in the top left corner of the Gmail app. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and select the Settings option. This action will present you with a list that includes General Settings and the various email accounts you have logged in.
Choose the account for which you wish to adjust the settings. Depending on your current version of Gmail, you will either find a section labeled Meet or an option simply titled Chat. If you see the Meet section, uncheck the box next to Show the Meet tab for video calling. Conversely, if you are presented with the Chat option, remove the checkbox next to Show the chat tab.
While this adjustment may seem minor, many users, including those who do not utilize Google Meet for work, appreciate the opportunity to reclaim valuable screen space. It’s a simple yet effective way to tailor the app to individual preferences. Notably, while some changes introduced by Google may not resonate with all users, features like the Gemini integration and the Gmail passkey system have received positive feedback for enhancing user experience.
