Don’t want to pay for YouTube Premium? Morphe picks up where Revanced left off.

Several developers and contributors have recently departed from the Revanced project, leading to the emergence of a new player in the realm of video streaming applications: the Morphe app. This open-source alternative is designed to enhance the user experience on YouTube and YouTube Music by unlocking features typically reserved for Premium subscribers or requiring browser extensions.

Features and Functionality

Morphe offers a range of intriguing functionalities that set it apart from the standard YouTube experience. Among its standout features are:

  • SponsorBlock integration: This feature allows users to skip sponsored segments in videos, enhancing viewing enjoyment.
  • YouTube Dislike support: Users can express their opinions on videos more freely.
  • Shorts content management: The app provides options to disable Shorts on the homepage or in search results.
  • Thumbnail customization: Users can swap out thumbnails for a more personalized touch.

Most of these features can be accessed through Settings > Morphe within the patched YouTube app, making it user-friendly and intuitive.

Upon downloading Morphe, users are guided through a straightforward setup process. They are prompted to select either YouTube or YouTube Music for patching and must provide the original, unpatched APK, specifically YouTube v20.37.48 at the time of writing. For those who have yet to download this APK, Morphe conveniently directs users to the appropriate APKMirror link. After selecting the relevant APK, Morphe performs the necessary patches and prompts the installation of the modified version. Additionally, users will be required to install microG upon launching the patched app for the first time.

Notably, the patched version of YouTube coexists alongside the stock app, featuring its own unique icon. Users also have the option to rename the patched app, adding a personal touch to their experience.

User Experience

Once users have signed in to their Google account via microG, they will find that Morphe closely resembles the original YouTube app. However, there are key differences: the patched app omits the Shorts tab and the plus icon typically found in the stock version. Instead, it includes a notifications tab, replacing the conventional notification bell. The Morphe section in the settings menu offers a wealth of customization options, allowing users to tailor their viewing experience to their preferences.

While the longevity of Morphe remains uncertain—given that Google may not favor applications that provide Premium features for free users—its existence highlights a growing demand for enhanced functionalities within the YouTube ecosystem. For those interested in exploring this innovative app, further details and download options can be found on the official Morphe website.
