Google Drive for Android gets a video player upgrade and better upload tools

Google Drive for Android has undergone a significant transformation, enhancing user experience with a redesigned video player and an improved mobile upload process. These updates are now available to all Google Workspace and personal Drive users.

Revamped Video Player

The latest iteration of Google Drive introduces a fresh video player design that prioritizes user-friendliness. Playback controls have been strategically relocated below the video, allowing for easier visibility and interaction. This update mirrors the revamped player that was previously launched on the web, ensuring a consistent experience across platforms. Users can now enjoy quick access to essential features such as captions, playback speed adjustments, and full-screen mode, all designed to enhance the viewing experience.

This redesign was first hinted at in March, when developers uncovered clues in the app’s code. Initially, the updated layout was available only through manual activation, but it has since rolled out to all users, marking a significant step in Google’s ongoing efforts to modernize its storage solutions.

Streamlined Mobile Uploads

In addition to the video player enhancements, Google Drive has refined its mobile upload process. Users can now rename files and select their destination folder immediately upon initiating an upload. This improvement streamlines the workflow, making it more intuitive and efficient. A new progress bar has also been introduced, providing users with a clear indication of upload status, while an Upload tab allows for easy tracking of pending and recently completed uploads.

These updates reflect Google’s commitment to enhancing productivity and user satisfaction within its suite of applications. As these features become fully integrated, users can expect a more seamless experience when managing their files and media on the go.
