Google expands AI Studio with Android & cloud tools

Google has unveiled an expansion of its AI Studio, introducing a suite of new app-building and deployment features that enhance its integration across various software and devices.

Workspace access

Among the most significant updates is the seamless integration of Google Workspace into AI Studio. This enhancement enables developers to create dashboards utilizing data from Google Sheets, design tools for organizing content in Google Drive, and develop applications that interact with existing documents and internal data—all without leaving the AI Studio environment. This integration effectively positions AI Studio within Google’s extensive software ecosystem, aligning app creation with the workplace tools that many businesses already rely on.

In addition, Google has rolled out a direct export feature to Google Antigravity, catering to users who prefer local development. This functionality allows teams to export conversation history, project files, and sensitive information, ensuring continuity as they transition to a different development environment.

Design tools

To further enrich the user experience, Google has introduced new visual design capabilities aimed at enhancing app aesthetics during the building process. The AI Studio Build agent can now automatically generate custom images through a tool called Nano Banana, enabling users to create interface elements or mock up specific use cases without the need for external placeholder graphics.

Moreover, users can directly edit app previews within the platform. This feature allows for annotations in the preview window, drawing on the app, modifying components, and generating updated visuals while iterating on their projects.

Mobile app

A new AI Studio mobile application is currently available for pre-registration, designed to extend the build-mode experience to smartphones. This mobile app will empower users to iterate on code and preview builds away from their desktop environments. Users can initiate projects on mobile devices, remix apps from a mobile gallery, and share live deployments for feedback and collaboration.

Android build

AI Studio now supports the direct creation of native Android applications. Users can select the “Build an Android app” option within the build tab and begin generating applications using prompts, eliminating the need to install software development kits or configure a local environment. The platform can generate Kotlin code utilizing Jetpack Compose patterns and includes a browser-based Android emulator, along with support for the Android Debug Bridge to facilitate app installation on devices.

Additionally, AI Studio can connect to a Google Play Developer account, allowing users to publish their apps to Google Play’s Internal Test Track with a single click for testing purposes.

Cloud deployment

For newcomers to the platform, the first two apps can now be deployed to Google Cloud at no cost and without requiring a credit card. Existing users with billing enabled will continue to benefit from the Cloud Run Free Tier by default. These latest enhancements signify Google’s commitment to streamlining the transition from concept to functioning application, simplifying the process for both seasoned developers and novice creators as they navigate prototyping, design, testing, and deployment—all within a unified platform.
