In a subtle yet significant shift, Google is poised to refresh the branding of its widely used Messages app. Recent explorations within the latest beta version of Google Messages have revealed an intriguing development: the iconic “G” logo may soon be replaced by the full “Google” wordmark in the app’s header.

Branding Evolution

This potential change aligns with a broader trend across Google’s suite of applications, including Photos, Calendar, and Drive, which already feature the “Google” branding prominently displayed in a clean, white font. The anticipated update for Messages, however, introduces a vibrant twist, showcasing the full-color Google logo, thereby enhancing its visibility and brand recognition.

Through an APK teardown, which analyzes the underlying code of applications to forecast future features, it has been determined that this branding update is currently being tested. While such predictions are not guaranteed to make it to the final public release, they provide valuable insights into the company’s direction.

At present, users of Google Messages are familiar with the standalone “G” icon located at the top-left corner of the app. The transition to the full “Google” wordmark represents a more cohesive branding strategy, mirroring the design language of other core Google applications.

Interestingly, while an update to the existing “G” logo could have been an option—perhaps even adopting a newer, multi-colored gradient version—the decision to switch to the full wordmark underscores a commitment to a more unified brand identity across platforms. This change is particularly noteworthy for users on various devices, including those operating on Samsung’s One UI, as it promises a consistent experience regardless of hardware.

While the timeline for this branding transition remains uncertain, it could be part of a broader user interface refresh that Google has in the pipeline. As developments unfold, the tech community will be keenly observing to see if this new branding approach will be implemented in stable builds of the app.
