Google’s Pixels have users thinking there’s a ghost, as apps begin to struggle

What you need to know

Google Pixel users are currently voicing concerns over a peculiar glitch affecting their devices. Reports have emerged detailing a situation where, after closing an app, the same app unexpectedly reopens. One user shared a video demonstrating this phenomenon, where they closed Instagram only to find it reopening when attempting to access another application, X (formerly Twitter). This issue has reportedly persisted for the past six months, affecting devices such as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 10 Pro XL.

  • Users have noted that the glitch disrupts their app-switching experience.
  • One workaround suggested by a user involves pausing briefly before selecting another app or navigating to the taskbar before returning to the home screen.
  • Despite some acknowledgment from Google regarding the issue, no substantial solutions have been provided to the affected users.

The ongoing challenges for Pixel users extend beyond this app-switching issue. Following the recent AirDrop-Quick Share update, many Pixel 10 users have reported significant Wi-Fi connectivity problems. While these issues can be frustrating, a temporary solution has been found: uninstalling the Quick Share extension or opting for Bluetooth when transferring files.

The issues roll on

In addition to the app reopening glitch and Wi-Fi troubles, Pixel 10 users are facing another hurdle with their speakerphone functionality. Reports indicate that the speakerphone button within the Phone app frequently becomes unresponsive or exhibits lag. This particular issue has been lingering since May, affecting even earlier Pixel 9 models. Despite the ongoing complaints, Google has marked this problem as “won’t fix (Infeasible),” citing a lack of actionable information to address it.

As these issues continue to unfold, users remain hopeful for a timely response and effective solutions from Google to restore the seamless experience they expect from their devices.
