Google is making strides in enhancing user experience on the Play Store by introducing an innovative AI-powered feature designed to address app-related inquiries. This development, first uncovered during a teardown of the Play Store app last October, has now moved into the testing phase, as confirmed in the November 2024 Play System Update changelog.
New Interactive Feature
The new functionality, titled “Ask Play about this app,” introduces a dedicated section within app listings. Users will find a text field where they can pose specific questions about the app, alongside several sample queries tailored to the app in question. This dual approach allows for both custom inquiries and quick access to common questions.
In a demonstration of the feature, users can see that responses are conveniently displayed just below the text field. Notably, the sample queries adapt based on previous questions, facilitating a seamless flow for follow-up inquiries. This design aims to provide users with comprehensive information without the need to navigate away from the app listing.
Currently, Google is rolling out this feature to a select group of users, which means it may not yet be accessible to everyone. The “Ask Play about this app” section is also selectively available, appearing on specific app listings. Interested users can check popular apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Temu, or X to see if they have access to this new capability.
As the testing continues, the anticipation grows around how this feature will transform the way users interact with applications on the Play Store, potentially setting a new standard for app discovery and user engagement.
