Here’s how you can get your payout in Google’s $700 million settlement

Millions of consumers across the United States are poised to benefit from a substantial 0 million antitrust settlement involving Google. This development follows a lawsuit that accused the tech giant of unlawfully maintaining a monopoly over mobile app distribution and in-app payment processing for Android devices. The allegations highlighted that Google charged consumers fees as high as 30% for app purchases and in-app transactions.

Eligibility and Automatic Payments

If you made a purchase on the Google Play Store between August 16, 2016, and September 30, 2023, you are eligible to receive a portion of this payout. Under the terms of the proposed settlement, most users will automatically receive their share without the need to file a claim. The funds will be directly deposited into customers’ PayPal or Venmo accounts, utilizing the email address or phone number linked to their Google Play accounts.

Supplemental Claims Process

For those who may not receive an automatic payment, a supplemental claims process will be available once the initial payments are completed. This process is designed for individuals who:

  • Do not have an existing PayPal or Venmo account
  • No longer have access to the email address or mobile phone number associated with their Google Play account
  • Were expecting to receive a payment but did not

The court granted preliminary approval of the settlement on November 20, with a subsequent hearing scheduled for April 30, 2026, to determine final approval. If the settlement receives the green light, payouts will commence shortly thereafter. This significant resolution was achieved through the efforts of 53 attorneys general, representing all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
